On November 9, the award-winning projects of 2021 China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award was officially announced. The project led by Prof. Linfa Peng in School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University won the first prize of scientific and technological progress.

Project name: Accurate design, manufacture and industrialization of high-power hydrogen fuel cell stacks for vehicles.

The development of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is an important strategy for China to achieve the goal of "Carbon peak" and "Carbon neutrality". The high-power fuel cell stack, which is the "heart" of fuel cell vehicles, is the key to the implementation of the strategy.

The project focuses on the full technology chain of fuel cell stack assembly theory, process design and equipment development, proposes a new method of tolerance design for fuel cells, invents a new stack assembly process, and develops a high-efficiency production line for high-power fuel cell stacks. The project has formed the technology system of fuel cell design and manufacturing, which has been applied in 12 companies including Sunrise Power, Guangdong Sinosynergy, SAIC SHPT, FAW Group, Dongfeng Motor, Yutong Bus. It has greatly advanced the fuel cell technology in China, and promoted the industrialization of the world's largest fuel cell commercial vehicles.

The China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award was jointly established by the China Machinery Industry Federation and the China Mechanical Engineering Society. It is a comprehensive science and technology award for the national machinery industry, and includes technology invention award and science and technology progress award. Units and individuals with outstanding contributions in the machinery industry will be awarded.
