The China-Germany workshop on Aero Engine/Gas Turbine Performance and Advanced Cooling Technology was successfully held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China on July 5-6. The workshop was jointly organized by Professor Yu Rao from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Professor Stephan Staudacher from the University of Stuttgart in Germany. The workshop was funded by the Sino-German Science Center through the project "Sino-German Cooperation Research Group on Advanced Cooling Technology and Gas Turbine Performance" (Funding No. GZ 1577). This was also the second time that Prof. Yu Rao jointly organized the China-Germany workshop on Gas Turbine Engines with the University of Stuttgart.

About 50 experts and scholars from the universities and industries on aero engines and gas turbines attended the workshop, who are from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China, Beihang University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Harbin Engineering University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Dongfang Turbine Co. Ltd., Shanghai Electric Co. Ltd., and from University of Stuttgart and Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany, etc.

Totally 20 keynote lectures were presented by the Chinese and German researchers, which covered topics on aero engine/gas turbine performance modeling and prediction, turbine blade cooling, compressor/turbine flow control and heat transfer, advanced experimental measurements and numerical simulation methods, flight fuel efficiency evaluation based on data-driven models. The participants had intensive discussions regarding the workshop topics. This workshop strengthened the academic exchanges between Chinese and German scholars and expanded the cooperation platform between the academic and industrial circles in the field of aeroengine/gas turbine.
