Posted by:     Time:2020-03-27

Facing the COVID-19 outbreak is constantly evolving worldwide, after fighting the coronavirus for almost three months, we understand this pandemic is a battle calling for the world’s efforts to fight it. Now in China, the virus is controlled and life is gradually returning to normal. School of Mechanical Engineering made the donation of facemask and disposable gloves to partners overseas and students staying abroad.

In this difficult time of the global epidemic, sincere greetings and good deeds from ME have been acknowledged by the scholars and friends from the cooperative partners. They looked forward to seeing each other again and continuing to promote mutual cooperation.

“Thank you very much for your message. Yes, the corona virus presents us with a whole new set of challenges. I hope we all get over it soon. I also hope to return to Shanghai soon. I gladly accept your offer and thank you for your support. Please greet all of my Colleagues!”

——Prof. Albert Albers (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology)

“This is a very kind and generous offer. In Germany masks are completely sold out since early February and so only very, very few people have any masks. Some masks are also produced in Germany but far to few and these devices go directly to hospitals and no private person can order or buy them somewhere. If possible, I would highly appreciate if you could send some masks. This can really help us!”

——Prof. Peter Eberhard (University of Stuttgart)

“Many thanks for your support !! the Campus is closed now but there is still few international students who stay in their rooms due to the strict confinement procedure.  It could be helpful for them or for the medical office which stay on duty.”

——Prof. Alexandre Stegner (Ecole Polytechnique)

“Thanks for thinking about Purdue with regard to masks, which is very heart-warming. Please extend our gratitude to SJTU-ME school for the kind offer.”

——Dr. Wei Qiu (Purdue University)

“Thanks so much for sending it by express mail. There is an urgent need of masks here. I got a few requests from friends and will share with them.”

——Prof. Wei Chen (Northwestern University)

“Thank you for helping us with what is short here in the States! The package was delivered yesterday. ISyE donated it these to GT’s health center. They were extremely happy and thankful. The word was“You made our day!”

——Prof. Chen Zhou (Georgia Institute of Technology)

“Thank you for your generous offer. The COVID-19 situation has escalated rapidly in the United States. Given the global challenges it may be best that you keep the masks as we have some PPE (everyone will be in short supply). We thank you once again for your generous offer, and we value our relationship with SJTU.”

——Prof. Allen Robinson (Carnegie Mellon University)

“Thanks for the kindly help from School of Mechanical Engineering! I will distribute to people who need.”

——Prof. Andrea Matta (Polytechnic University of Milan)

“Thank you for this very kind gesture! Indeed, we can certainly use M95 masks which are now in very short supply in Canada and our hospitals. I'm glad that China has survived the COVID-19 pandemic, and I wish the very best to both of you.”

——Prof. John Mcphee (University of Waterloo)

“Thank you very much for your kind offer and concerns. I am doing fine and hope to see you and others at SJTU.”

——Prof. Jun Ni (University of Michigan)

“Xie xie for your kind offer of protective health equipment assistance. Given the great uncertainty of what the future will bring, masks would be appreciated. Your kindness and thoughtfulness are greatly appreciated. During these challenging times, I believe the goodness of humanity shines. Your actions are a shining example. Xie xie, my friend!”

——Prof. Martin Trethewey (Pennsylvania State University)

Students staying abroad expressed their gratitude to School after receiving the facemask. They will make full use of their time and live up to their duties and responsibilities.

At present, ME School is working with Polytechnic University of Milan, RWTH Aachen University, École Polytechnique, Purdue University, The Pennsylvania State University and Carnegie Mellon University on the renewal of agreement or further collaboration.
