From July 1 to July 10, five series lectures on gas turbine technology presented by seven experts from Siemens gas turbines R&D department were rolled out at School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. More than 120 students attended this series of lectures and extend their warmly welcome for such kind of lectures.

These lectures have 15 credit hours in total. After being classified as social practice courses, students could take the series lectures through the Internet in advance. Eventually these lectures could be incorporated into the curriculum system. It is the very first time that lectures offered by business experts included into the school curriculum system. Nevertheless, widely positive comments were given from students. It was said that professional courses offered by industrial experts are mainly like to focus on practical application and serve as a good supporting and complementary role for the current curriculum system.

The introduction of the relevant technological series courses from Siemens gas turbine is a new attempt and challenge for Gas Turbine Research Institute in this university since its establishment, particularly in last December when SJTU-Siemens Innovation Center for Gas Turbine was initially founded. SJTU and Siemens gas turbine department fostered close and in-depth relationship in scientific research, talents training and other aspects. Once again, the two sides extended the cooperation range to the field of teaching. Meanwhile, the series lectures yielded good results, which is bound to promote more innovative teaching in turn and will also enable more companies to join in this endeavor. Therefore, students could access to a richer and more practical course system.

In this summer semester, this school will provide students not only with cutting-edge academic elective courses to broaden their horizons, but also an increase of 14 rounds of social practice courses. What’s more, a variety of summer social practice, scientific innovation activities, summer camps and other activities will be offered for students.
