On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 26th, 2014, the agreement signing ceremony, entitled “Gathering Together for Big Future”, of University–Industry Cooperation between Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Shanghai Volkswagen automobile corporation(SVW) took place in the Takada Hall. The two sides signed two cooperation documents at the ceremony, including Measures for the Administration of SVW-SJTU Joint Readiness engineers Program and Fund Management of SVW-SJTU Scholarship for International Exchange. Present at the ceremony were ZHOU Yi (SVW Senior HR Director), Mr. SONG Wei Liang (Director of Training Department, SVW), ZHANG Yu (Senior Manager, SVW), YIN Jie (Vice Secretary-General of Education Development Foundation at SJTU), Prof. LIU Yingzheng and Lin He (Associate Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering), and GU Xiyao (Director of the Office for Student Affairs). Also present were more than two hundred students and teachers.  
 

Prof.LIU Yingzheng delivered a welcome Speech to the delegation of SVW extending his sincere thanks for SVW’s generous support, and he held out a bright prospect for the coming joint engineer trainee and scholarship for international exchange programs. Students were exposed to SVW’s development history and corporate culture through various forms exhibited by SVW’s human resources team. Zhou Yi, a mechanical engineering graduate from the School of Mechanical Engineering who was enrolled in 1985, shared with the students his own life experiences as well as the company’s talent training system. He also briefly introduced the two cooperative programs, namely the “preparatory engineers” and “international exchange scholarship” program, and said SVW would donate two billion yuan to promote the programs.
 

Being one of China’s first pilot schools, the School of Mechanical Engineering embarks on "brave exploration" of the innovative talent training in its leading roles as "first movers”. As we unswervingly promote international exchange to facilitate our education’s integration into the world, an international dimension can be seen reflected in the objectives of our school, which aim to produce high-quality intellectuals that meet the practical needs of society and enterprises. The two programs of “preparatory engineers” and “international exchange scholarship” boost the prospects of deeper cooperation in talent training for the two sides. SJTU and SVW can achieve mutual promotion and common development through complementary advantages and shared resources.

In 2013, to support the development of higher education, promote the implementation of educating outstanding engineers training program, Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. donated two million yuan to the Shanghai Education Development Foundation for directly supporting collaborated activities between enterprises and the University at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It is planned to invest half amount of the donation for the establishment and supporting of the " SVW international exchange program" to help those students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in dual-degree program to complete their studies abroad; and the rest part of the donation for the establishment and supporting of the " SVW - SJTU preparatory engineers joint training program. "
