The 6th SJTU-UT-XJTU Joint International Symposium on Nuclear Science and Technology was hosted by School of Nuclear Science and Engineering from Aug.11th to Aug.14th. The four-day Symposium comprised brilliant plenary presentations given byProf. Satoru Tanakafrom the University of Tokyo who once served as the president of Atomic Energy Society of Japan, Prof. Yanhua Yang from Shanghai Jiao Tong University who serves asdirector of School of Nuclear Science and Engineering andProf. Baowen Yangfrom Xi’an Jiao Tong University who serves as the dean of the School of Nuclear Science and Technology. Besides, Prof. Koji Okamoto and Prof. Naoto Kasahara from the University of Tokyo, Prof. LinpingKuai, Dr. Po Hu and Dr. JinbiaoXiong from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Prof. Guanghui Su from Xi'an Jiao Tong University also gave excellent academic presentations concerning the progress of theirown research field.
Various activities were offered by the symposium committee to promote the academic interaction among students from the three universities. For example, the students presented their research progress with oral presentation and posters. The topics of the symposium covered nuclear reactor safety, severe accidents, thermal-hydraulics, nuclear material, nuclear reactor physics, spent fuel reprocessing, environmental issues, etc.
The SJTU-UT-XJTU Joint International Symposium on Nuclear Science and Technology was initiated by the three universities jointly since 2008 and is hosted annually by turns, aiming to establish an international platform to expand the academic interaction among graduate students as well as to promote the research achievements exchange in the research field of nuclear reactor safety, severe accidents, thermal-hydraulics, nuclear material, nuclear reactor physics, spent fuel reprocessing etc. The next symposium will be hosted by Xi'an Jiao Tong University in 2014.
