The 3rd course on Science and Technology of Supercritical Water Cooled Reactors (SCWRs) was held in Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) from August 26-30, 2013. This course was organized by School of Nuclear Science and Engineering in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). There were nine world famous lecturers on SCWR having given the lectures in this course, such as Mr. Katsumi Yamada from IAEA and Prof. Xu Cheng from SJTU, etc. The training course provided 22 international participantscoming from 7 countries (Russia/Czech/Canada/India/Pakistan/Nigeria/China) with a comprehensive and up-to-date review of SCWR science and technology.

Due to its economic advantage, technology and experience continuity, SCWR has attracted significant interests of nuclear industries and research institutions. It is also well recognized as an inevitable extension of the existing nuclear power plants, which mainly utilize water cooled reactors. Recently, extensive R&D work relating to SCWR has been carried out in SJTU, which now is one of the leading institutes in the world on this research field.
