The signing ceremony of setting up Institute for Fundamental Research on Heavy Technical Equipment was held in School of Mechanical Engineering (ME) on the morning of Oct. 20, 2011. The institute was jointly established by?China First Heavy Industries (CFHI) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Prof. Zhongqin LIN, Vice President of SJTU met Mr. Ke MA, Direct and President of CFHI. Prof. Lifeng XI, Executive Dean of ME, Prof. Feng GAO, Director of The State Key Laboratory of Mechanical System and Vibration and Prof. Weizhong GUO from Institute of Design and Control Engineering for Heavy Equipment attended the ceremony. Prof. Zhaomin CAO, Vice Dean of Office of Research Management chaired the ceremony.

China First Heavy Industries (CFHI) is one of the fifty-three backbone enterprises under the management of the Central Government that directly related to the national security and economy. The principal business of CFHI is to manufacture key technological equipment and provide hi-tech products and services for industries such as steel and iron, electricity, energy, automobile, mining, petrochemical, transportation, etc., and to undertake the corresponding international trades.

On the ceremony, Dean Xi introduced ME in the aspects of academic settings, talents training, research achievements as well as international education. Prof. Gao made an overview of cooperation between both sides in two aspects: cooperation background and project achievements. Later on, President Ma expressed that as one of the most important partners of CFHI, SJTU accomplished series of collaborative research projects with high quality and creativity, which played the vital role for the development of CFHI. He delivered his thanks for SJTU’s supports all the time and due to CFHI’s lack of creativity in leading-edge research, the newly established institute will make great contributions through taking advantages of both sides, extending enterprise services and transforming scientific research outcomes.

Vice President Lin expressed his thanks for CFHI’s trust and via the establishment of the institute, not only will the bilateral ties be strengthened, but also the mode of production-education-research will be further enhanced.
