On September22, 2008, the 2008 Summit of China-US Advanced Manufacturing Technology which focusinig on “Advanced Manufacturing and National Competitiveness” was hold ceremoniously in TAKATA Conference Hall in Mechanical Engineering Building of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The summit is organized by China Science and Technology Exchange Center, China Ministry of Science and Technology and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and co-organized by Advanced Manufacture S&T Expert Group, National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program) of China and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. 

Professor Xueyu RUAN (Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering), Prof. Bangchun WEN (Academician of Chinese Academy of Science), Prof. Hai-cheng YANG(China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation), Dr. Alan Taub (Member of US National Academy of Engineering), Professor Stephen C-Y. Lu (University of Southern California) and other Eminent Speakers performed a deep discussion on various hot spots of Advanced Manufacturing and National Competitiveness, including Recent Advances on Precision Measurement and  the Development of Manufacturing and National Competitiveness. Professor Guang MENG (Dean of Mechanical Engineering School in Shanghai Jiao Tong University) and Professor Jun NI (Director of SM Wu Manufacturing Research Center in University of Michigan) chaired the summit.
