Brief introduction to Prof. Volker Sick
Prof. Sick is an internationally recognized pioneer in laser-based imaging diagnostics and engine research. Amongst a broad variety of achievements is in particular a range of quantitative measurement techniques that were developed by investigating the underlying physical and chemical features that generate the signals. Quantitative high-speed imaging of fuel concentration, high-speed particle velocimetry, and temperature imaging in engines are examples. He serves as the Editor of the Proceedings of the Combustion Institute. He is Chair of the Technical Quality Response Team for SAE International to develop and oversee improved technical publication procedures. He is also Chair of SAE’s Land and Sea group, overseeing almost a dozen worldwide SAE sub-organizations in the automotive field and their work on conferences, symposia, and publications. At UM, Prof. Sick served as faculty advisor to the Formula SAE team and the SAE Collegiate Student Chapter for many years. His engagement for younger students has earned him awards at local, national, and international levels.
