White board is a kind of commonly used teaching aid. However, there still exist some problem. Take the white board on the market for example, all of them have to be cleaned by hand, during the process of which large amount of dust is generated. Dust residual will make writing more difficult. Dust floating in the air will also cause damage to our lung. Therefore, the key to the optimization of white board is to improve the cleaning process. A “self-cleaning” design will make it possible to prevent teachers from breathing the dust. Inspired by the structure of rotating billboard (which is commonly used along the highway), we manage to combine the rotating structure with the white board. With the help of gear, when we twist the handle, every rotating unit will pivot by 120 degrees. At the same time, cleaning device inside the white board will help to clean the dust. Say goodbye to cleaning the white board, and all we need to do in simply twisting the handle. The application of rotating structure not only reduces the amount od dust, but also set students and teachers free from the load of cleaning the black board constantly. With zero carbon emissions, our design provides an alternative of electronic whiteboard as well.
The main aim of our project is to build a more intelligent and safe campus. And it is vital to prevent students and teachers from being harmed by the dust. We hope that students in the future will not go through the experience of being choked by toxic dust and cleaning white board several times a class. The aim of “self- cleaning white board” is not only to set students and teachers free from the load of cleaning the white board, but also to improve the quality of every lecture through every single detail. With the help of “self- cleaning white board”, teachers may simply twist the handle instead of stopping the class and spending one or more minutes on cleaning the white board. All of the details help to improve the continuity and integrality of the teaching content. There is no doubt that “self-rotating white board” will definitely make a difference on the existing teaching system. The application of computer and other electronic equipment do help increase the efficiency and provide a new way of communication, but we hope that the “self-rotating white board” will offer a more sustainable and traditional choice.
The epidemic of COVID-19 makes it impossible for us to build a prototype. The final result of our project is a 3D solidworks model. The 3D solidworks model is made up of four main parts: rotation shaft, gears, handle and white board (rotating unit). The 3D model is able to simulate the main function of our design. When we twist the handle of the model in solidworks, the white board rotates as well. Gears are the key to the driving structure. Every rotating unit is connected to a gear, and the rotation shaft is connected to gears as well. The movement of three pairs of “umbrella gear” help to transit the movement of the handle. However, there still exist something to be optimized, such as the ratchet and the cleaning structure. The application of ratchet helps to held the rotation unit in place, so that the white board will not rotate when the teacher is writing. The cleaning structure is supposed to be passive. Passive structure will cause zero carbon emission and cause much lower noise than electric motor. In our schedule drawing, we show the element of “self-cleaning white board” in detail, include measurement, screw thread, manufacturing tolerance, and so on.
